Apple finally launched the much-awaited successor to the original iPhone SE released way back in 2016. The Cupertino-based brand’s compact iPhone model was scheduled to launch in March but it was reportedly delayed. Apple hasn’t changed the moniker of its latest offering and instead has stuck to the iPhone SE only. The smartphone packs a lot of hardware upgrades compared to its predecessor. Let’s find out what the device offers out of the box:
iPhone SE specifications:
The iPhone SE looks quite identical to the iPhone 8 borrowing its design language with a thick top and bottom bezel. The latest smartphone also ditches the boxy design of the original model and instead features a slim form factor. The iPhone SE offers a 4.7-inch Retina HD TrueTone display with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10 playback. The bottom chin of the phone houses a 3D Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Like the iPhone 11 series, this one sports a glass back panel with a single 12MP rear camera along with LED flash at the top and an Apple logo at the centre. The device offers various camera features like Smart HDR, depth control, depth lighting and portrait mode. There is a 8MP front-facing camera for selfies. The smartphone supports up to 4K video recording at 60fps with support for cinematic video stabilisation. The iPhone SE is also dust and water-resistant with IP67 rating.
Under the hood, the iPhone SE is equipped with A13 Bionic SoC which also powers the iPhone 11 series. The chipset offers various features like support for Apple Arcade and AR capabilities. Depending on the user’s needs, the smartphone can be availed in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. Software-wise, the iPhone SE ships with the latest iOS 13 out of the box. Apple claims that the 18W fast charging is capable of topping up 50 percent of the battery life in 30 minutes via a Lightning connector. The iPhone SE also supports wireless charging and is compatible with Qi-certified chargers.
In terms of connectivity, the iPhone SE features WiFi 6, Gigabit LTE and dual SIM with e-SIM support. The smartphone lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.
